Committee members approve amendments to vape shop and marijuana dispensary ordinances

The Planning and Economic Development Committee Meeting Started at 1:00 PM Previous Meeting Minutes Passed Unanimously Michael Antenucci said Item 1 is a conditional use permit for a child daycare center on 1582 Creighton Avenue for Family Forever Childcare and Tutorial Agency

Antenucci said Item 5 is a conditional use permit at 1869 Daniels Avenue to build a fence and solid deck beyond the 25 FT setback requirement The homeowner said he home is on the corner which prevents a pool and deck to be built in a backyard

Jeff Fusco said Item 6 leases 1246 ft^2 in the Oliver Ocasek Building to the Legal Defenders Office of Summit County Item passed Unanimously

Fusco said Item 7 is a new community development budget which accounts for decreased federal funding He asked if this budget differs from Akron's 2024 Capitol Budget A staffer said the Neighborhood Rehabilitation and Stability program was reduced from $1 million to $875,000

Fusco said Item 8 creates a minimum distance between vape shops and asked if a minimum setback from schools could be added A staffer said Item 9 creates a minimum distance between marijuana facilities similar to the existing zoning laws for medical marijuana facilities

Fusco said Item 10 is a contract with Winter Green Ledges Apartment to provide 120 affordable housing units Item passed unanimously Fusco requested that new legislation items 2 and 3 are scheduled for public hearing ohiohome.org/ppd/proposals/…

Suzie Graham Moore (Director of Economic Development) said Akron Polymer Products and SA Industries produce a "wide variety" of products for trucks. She said the company got a $50,000 grant to move to Akron that hasn't been paid, she said item 4 pays that grant

Sean Vollman (Deputy Director of Economic Development) said the city wants to sell approx. 20 acres to Amazon to construct a Last Mile Facility near Springfield. He said the 65000 ft^2 facility will employ 200 . emarketer.com/insights/last-…

Sean Vollman said Item 6 will collect $1 million annually for Downtown Akron Partnership to provide services for the next 5 years. He said there were no objections to the funding from any downtown property owners downtownakron.com

A City Staffer said Akron has partnered with the Ohio Public Works Commission since 1989 and has since received over $200 million. He said item will propose 5 projects (3 transportation, 2 water/sewer) to the program

The projects include concrete road repairs for 2025, North Main Street Complete Street, South Main Street Improvements phase 3, Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction 2025, and Sodium Hypochlorite feed system replacement at Akron Water Plant

The Housing Rehabilitation Office Administrator said they would like to apply for a $7.75 million grant from the Department of Housing and Economic Development for lead abatement
