Chicago Board of Education meeting, January 22, 2020

A lengthy meeting of the BoE focused in large part on charter contract renewals. Some highlights: (1) Del Valle on CPS’s affirmation of Chicago’s welcoming/sanctuary city status; (2) Testimony from Metz of Noble Charter Schools saying that some misstatements were made about her; (3) Back and forth among board members and staff regarding the criteria for renewing charter schools (this included some arcana about LSCs and the distinctions between contract and charter schools about which I wish I’d known more).

I’ll add that this board in its current configuration is one of the most Twitter literate/accessible that I’ve seen.
