The Commission is now recognizing the accomplishments of Cass Technical High School’s Wrestling and Chess teams. The Wrestling team is new and they won the state championship this year. The Cass Tech Chess team is being celebrated now - Ursula Bird, assistant chess coach is thanking the commission for the recognition. The team is 2nd and 3rd place national champions! 1st place state champions! 1st place city champions! Amazing

Addition from earlier- the resolution on tax exemption was 3 under item VII - called: “A resolution by Commissioners Daub and Marecki calling upon all municipalities, the State of Michigan and Congress to take all necessary action to preserve the federal tax-exempt status of municipal bonds.”

1 commissioner references the “toxic” land fill which is trying to expand by 5 million cubic yards. Looking to add new hazardous waste process. Also - the license for this dump expired in 2022.

Looks like it’s Tim Killeen speaking - he wants to work with commissioners on this.
This is in Commissioner Allen R. Wilson’s district who says he has been involved extensively in the efforts to prevent these actions from taking place. Says he’s on this like a “blood hound on a cat”.

Commission Chair Alisha Bell says if there needs to be a task force on this, they can consider it.
Bells says Wayne County cannot continue to be a dumping ground for all of North America naming that a lot of it comes from Canada.

The Wayne County Commission and its employees are the legislative branch of county government. The chief role of the commission is to adopt a budget and enact ordinances. The commission also approves contracts, appointments and rules. The money is spent and ordinances are enforced through the administrative branch. The $1.5 billion budget runs the county operations that serve the more than 1.8 million people living in Wayne County.
