The Wayne County Commission is the legislative body for Wayne County with 15 commissioners elected every 2 years. The WCC is the legislative branch of county gov’t. Their main role is to adopt budgets and enact ordinances. They also approves contracts, appointments and rules.

New Business: requesting approval of 2-year contract of $750,000 between charter County of Wayne and the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare Resources of Chicago for consultation presented by the Dept. Of Justice.

Killeen has questions about who is responsible for any mistakes in a report or unmet criteria to the consulting firm or DOJ.
A representative is explaining that it is a mutual indemnification, and that after reports are submitted, the counsel has the opportunity to challenge them

Killeen was left feeling that the commission counsel should have been given the opportunity to aid in hiring the consultants. Ultimately the addendum was accepted by all.

New business: proposed grant agreement between dept of Housing and Urban Development to allocate funds up to $3,519,100 (over 6 years) for disaster recovery efforts (when an official disaster is declared by the governor)

Daub is having concerns about getting community feedback on this agreement.
A representative is explaining that they only have 90 days to move through the whole process with the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Administrative Action Plan for funds.

Public comment - Tanya Arthur from Joshua’s Dreams. They teach children and adults to swim after she lost her grandson to drowning in 2012. She and Daniel Smith who also lost a child to drowning say that drowning is a “national epidemic” and are offering free swimming lessons.
