Council is hearing public comments right now.

Around 10 people have provided comment since I’ve joined the meeting. The majority have opposed ShotSpotter.

The last 3 comments addressed ShotSpotter with at least 2 of them opposing it. One was difficult to hear but seemed to be on the fence.

That concludes general public comment.

Moving forward on the agenda ➡️ Section 15

15.1 was approved. This is a PILOT tax incentive for a multi-family housing development.

15.2 The contract with Detroit Cannabis Project is being brought back after Council postponed their vote to address outstanding questions.

Kim James, Office of Marijuana Ventures and Entrepreneurship, said the administration has answered members’ questions.

The project provides business-related training and education for folks who want to start businesses in the cannabis industry

James said about 10 cannabis participants have received their license or are working to obtain a property.

The remaining items under Section 16 were approved

All items under Section 17 were approved

Now under Section 18.

Santiago-Romero moved to postpone the vote on ShotSpotter until next week. There are two contracts on today’s agenda.

Santiago-Romero thanked individuals who spoke during public comment and said she felt inspired. She doesn’t feel ShotSpotter would have saved her uncle from being shot.

The remaining items under Section 18 have been approved.

All items under Section 19 have been approved.

Note: 19.6 through 19.9 are resolutions canceling next week’s committee meetings (Wednesday and Thursday)

Items 22.1-22.5 were moved to New Business for a vote. These are various petitions to hold various events. These were approved.

The remaining items under Sections 22 through 24 are referred to the appropriate committees.

Happy birthday wishes for Latisha Johnson!

Santiago-Romero said her office is following up on her budget requests. She spoke about her request to expand the availability of ASL and language interpretation services for meetings. Both have been available for residents since.

Santiago-Romero also said she will be a panelist for an upcoming Pistons event.

Durhal shared info about an expungement fair and a Neighborhood Opportunity Fund event

Sheffield also shared details about various events happening in the community in the near future.

With nothing further on the agenda for today, the meeting was adjourned at 11:43am.
