350 S 5th St Minneapolis, MN 55415 (Directions)
- The council unanimously approved a reworded legislative directive requesting data (such as costs incurred) on the city’s evictions of homeless encampments and research (from a public health & racial equity lens) on how the city can better address encampments.
- The council unanimously approved an ordinance prohibiting demonstrators from blocking driveways of reproductive health clinics.
- Council Member Robin Wonsley introduced the subject matter of an ordinance relating to temporary housing. On a narrow 5-6 vote, the council rejected the motion to refer the ordinance to the Business, Inspections, Housing, and Zoning Committee. The ordinance was then “returned to author,” effectively killing it.
- Council members speaking in support of the proposed ordinance stated that they were disappointed with this decision and described the city’s current encampment response policy as “inhumane.” Other council members suggested this issue could still be reviewed through the ordinance previously introduced by CM Chughtai at an earlier meeting.
