@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier The goals of this proposal are to:
- Provide residential parking relief
- Maintain support for non-residential entities operating in Brush Park
- Dis-incentivize non-Brush Park related parking

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Keith Hutchings, Director, Municipal Parking, goes through these goals and introduces the proposal. https://t.co/oIxqup4W3X

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier In order to create this proposal, the following actions were taken: https://t.co/PFls24Tn4U

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Tonight’s meeting focuses on the Central Brush Park region. (Southern happened 1/10, and Northern occurs tomorrow, 1/12) https://t.co/4RR6Xf7uty

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Below is the area covered by the Central Brush Park region. https://t.co/Oi4KhyR1ng

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Central Brush Park is a heavily mixed residential and commercial area. The screenshots below highlight the types of businesses on each street in the central area. https://t.co/1lXfDgJxmV

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Each of the times on the x-axis are the times of day the study was done. At the far bottom, there are additional dates that were chosen due to the volume of people certain events drew to the area. https://t.co/1UbIYMkmlI

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Based on the graph above, it is determined that there is a significant parking issue on Alfred. (Several data points are above the 85% ordinance threshold.)

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Next is Edmund. Though not as significant as Alfred, there are still some issues. https://t.co/cWkcdkA1Ur

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier It is determined that events in the area are causing over-parking on Watson. https://t.co/wzcwUDQjTr

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Lastly, John R. Events aren’t affecting parking on this street, but residents still need support. https://t.co/aoEavW4tG4

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier The proposed parking plan for Alfred/Edmund/Watson Streets in Brush Park is below. https://t.co/zqmwvnvbTa

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Residents would have protected parking from 6pm to 7am. This is a smaller time period because of the businesses in the area. https://t.co/CKioNZxii3

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier In residential zones with meters, as long as the resident has a permit, they will not need to pay the meters.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Need a permit? Go to the http://parkdetroit.us website! https://t.co/tib6kfRmJA

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier It is now time for public comment/question!

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Donavan Davis asks about a changed zone for parking on Adelaide.
A: Added a street on John R between Adelaide and Alfred to support retail. Made it all the same along Adelaide (doesn’t affect residents) so it would be less confusing.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Patricia Jackson asks once this process has been voted on, and tried, will the plan be revisited?
A: Yes, the ordinance allows for the proposal to be revisited, but this is a long standing problem (even before people moved to the area). Trying to reduce pressure, and make ma

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Both of the previous questions were answered by Hutchings.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Don Butler asks why we are losing parking on John R between Alfred and Edmund? Which permit holders can park in which area?
A: Parking is not lost. The zones reinforce the parking areas (zone #s), and don’t allow people attending events in the area to park on those streets.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Mike Essian asks for areas that are metered, can you extend your max time of 2 hours? What happens to those areas on Sundays when meters are off? What is the total number of spaces on street?

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier A: Yes, you can extend time, but can’t allow you to purchase more than 2 hours at a time. Sunday will be enforced, meters won’t be on, but you can’t park in an area unless you have a permit. The total number of spaces - talk about that offline.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Henry Williams asks about the congestion on Alfred and a senior occupied building. When does this proposal go into effect? Greatly affected by events in this area. What is the cost for registration?

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier A: Once goes to City Council, they will choose when it hits their agenda. If they don’t do anything within 30 days, the ordinance goes into effect automatically. 60 or 90 days, need to have 50% participation or the zone will be abolished.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Blue residential areas, what times are those in effect?
A: Residential is 24, if it is protected, it is 5pm - 9am.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Metered residential parking, what type of enforcement for non-resident parking? Is it a ticket or towing?
A: It will not be towing. Will write tickets. After a ticket or two, people tend to stop parking in that area. Want to make it inconvenient for non-residents.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Says that the data set doesn’t capture the daytime events. Still puts a burden on residents for 40-60 days per year for events before 4pm.
A: Says that they took a variety of times when capturing data, but are open to feedback via email.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Kayleigh Roy wants clarification about residents with multiple cars who are alternating which car is on street.
A: Whichever car is registered, you can park on the street. If both are registered, both can park. If you have off street parking, please use it!

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Permits are $60 annually and $30 for seniors or income-except (determined by city). There is a one time $40 admin fee, as well.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier All questions above were answered by Keith Hutchings.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Mary Sheffield, City Council President, jumps into the meeting and says thank you to everyone involved, including the community for being present and giving feedback.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Could you report the email address to get a copy of the report?
A: mpdresidentialparking@detroitmi.gov

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Q: Owns a piece of property (vacant) in the area. Going through the architectural stages.
A: Can still get a permit as a property owner, but may require a deeper conversation on this topic.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Kimani Jeffrey, CPC staff, also thanks those who have worked on this project, and the community for their support on this.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier Ray Solomon, Director of Neighborhoods, says it has been great to partner, and it is a well thought out plan. Happy to continue to support as this plan rolls out.

@CityofDetroit @DetDocumenters @wdet @freep @PlanetDetroit @BridgeDet313 @metrotimes @chalkbeatDET @MichiganRadio @media_outlier The meeting was adjourned at 6:49 PM. For more meeting coverage, check out http://documenters.org. Thanks for following along!
